Friday Night Kirtan with Donna & Robert Wenzler

Fri Date: Oct 28, 2016 From: 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Peace~Om~Love Kirtan Band with Robert and Donna Wenzler.
So Why Kirtan?

Our teachers and staff at Leap Yoga are devoted to offering yogi’s the opportunity to experience the full spectrum of the power of yoga in their lives. By this we mean not just the asana postures and poses led in a heated room with sweaty friends, the asana practice is amazing yes! And when it comes to yoga there is so much more.

Kirtan is chant, or mantra and it can be considered training of the mind. A way to move away from habitual habits and enjoy our lives more right NOW. How does this work? Well, to get technical with you, combining sound, breath, and rhythm, mantra meditation channels the flow of energy through the mind-body circuit, adjusting the chemical composition of our internal states and regulating brain-hemisphere imbalances contributing to a natural abatement of fear and despair–emotions that underlie both of these common afflictions. It can balance the nervous system, regulate the chronic stress and tension that is the norm for many people in today’s hyper-stimulated lifestyle. Chanting helps to balance the endocrine system, it can help to normalize hormone production, which balances our moods and overall sense of well-being. In addition, chanting can soothe, help us develop greater compassion, stoke the fire of our immune system, and bring about a sense of well being beyond the concerns of our daily lives.

Janet Stone shared her experience with kirtan in an interview. “While in India in the mid-’90s I came across a Sivananda teacher who freely repeated mantras as he went about his day. I had no knowledge of what he was saying or why, but found myself repeating it,” she says. “It didn’t seem to matter what it was; I was drawn to how it felt. It felt as if I forgot myself and at the same time remembered myself more intimately than ever before.”

And, as Krishna Das says, “It won’t work if you don’t do it”.
