8-limbs of Yoga with Amanda

In the context of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, there are 8 steps leading to liberation, known as the‘Ashtanga Yoga System’ or ‘8 Limbs of Yoga’ (the word ‘ashta’ means ‘eight’ and ‘anga’ means ‘limb’). The word ‘yoga’ means to connect, unite or ‘yoke’. The thing we look to connect to, is the true Self, also known as the ‘divine essence’, ‘ultimate self’, or atman. You might also think of this as the soul. Perhaps consider that the word yoga could also mean lessening separation or entanglement. The thing we’re disentangling from is whatever stops us from feeling free, as the ultimate goal of any yoga practice is to attain moksha, meaning liberation or freedom. Learn these 8 principles and how to apply them on and off the mat.

Mandalas and Snacks with Satya

teach basic painting techniques so you can create your own beautiful mandala,
while you enjoy light refreshments made by Therese. You will go home with your
own painted or colored mandala on canvas panel, a pleased palate.

Live Sound Healing Meditation with Amanda

During the workshop, I begin with a brief introduction. Then I will go into a guided 10-minute meditation sitting upright. For the remainder of the meditation, I suggest lying down on a yoga mat or blanket. Being comfortable is key for this meditation. The Singing Bowls will replace my voice and are the guide for the remainder of the meditation. Halfway through the meditation I go around the room and connect the vibration of the bowl to the client's body by placing a bowl onto either their feet, stomach or chest to deepen the healing process. (This part is for anyone who would like to receive). At the end of the meditation, I open the room for a group discussion on their experience and we close the meditation with an OM. Anyone after the meditation is more than welcome to play with the bowls too!

• Learn to modify and adapt your practice to suit you while tuning into the energy and purpose of posture.

• Explore the use of props to feel your personal best in yoga postures regardless of flexibility level, limitations or injuries.

• Discover how to use and incorporate several types props into your practice: blankets, blocks, straps, bolsters, wedges, sandbags and wraps.

Props allow all practitioners access to the benefits of the postures regardless of physical condition, age, or length of study. The central purpose for using yoga props is to address a need for support. A “prop” is just that. It is supportive and helpful when facing obstacles on the mat because it helps to meet us where we are. Props help practitioners at all levels gain the sensitivity of a pose while receiving the benefits over time without overextending themselves. By using props, we teach ourselves to surrender to the support beneath us and let go of the need to control within. The mind becomes free of agitation and the student practices with greater effectiveness, ease, and stability.

Chakra Workshop with Amanda

Chakras: Sacred Centers

A chakra is a wheel-like spinning vortex that whirls in a circular motion forming a vacuum in the center that draws in anything it encounters on its particular vibratory level. Discover the elements of this system, recognize how chakras imbalances are manifesting, and understand how chakras govern different parts of your being. The seven main chakra centers are aligned along the spinal column. If there are disturbances on any level, this shows in the chakra’s vitality level. Also each of the seven main chakras is their own intelligence center. This means that each chakra is not only associated with our physical health but also controls aspects connected to our emotional, mental and belief system. When one part of a chakra center is out of sync it may eventually affect its other parts and possibly its neighboring chakra. When a chakra center is out of balance it generally means that it is over-active or under-active; if this happens it is usually felt on a mental, emotional or physical level. Learn practices that help bring each Chakra into a state of balance and how to recognize which energy centers to address.
